Our Administrative Heritage
When the school started in September of 1965, founder and president Robert McCurry served in the capacity of principal/administrator until 1970. Dr. McCurry is a graduate of Beulah Heights Bible College and
received his doctorate degree from Great Plains Bible College. During those initial years from 1965 through 1970 after starting the school with just a kindergarten program, grades were gradually added each year.
When the 8th and 9th grades were added in 1970-71, we hired our very first principal to relieve Pastor McCurry of those responsibilities, Dr. Grover Langston. Although Dr. Langston had served as a pastor for more than 30 years

he was also very well respected in the field of education. Combined, Dr. Langston had more than 45 years experience in ministerial and educational work. His academic work was earned in several schools, including Norman Junior College, Middle Georgia College, Southwestern of Texas, the University of Alabama, and Emory University. Dr. Langston received his B.A., M.A., and PhD. He faithfully served as principal for four years.

Beginning with the 1974-75 school year, the board of trustees announced that Mr. Marshall Chambers would serve as the new administrator/principal. Formally, he had served in the school as a teacher, counselor, and administrative assistant. In addition to his educational qualities, (M.A. Pensacola Christian College) he possessed the fine qualities of leadership, compassion, and dedication, all of which are essential in one who serves as principal of a Christian school.

Beginning with the 1981-82 school year, Frank Holby, one of our middle grade teachers, became our school’s third principal. Frank had been
|
converted to Christ in 1971 midway through his college career at Auburn University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1974, he served as a public school teacher until moving to the Atlanta area in 1975. Since then he has served Heritage Christian as a middle school and high school teacher as well as in the school’s administration. Frank served as principal until 1988 when he became the director of guidance and curriculum.
After moving from East Point, Georgia, to Sharpsburg, Georgia, in the summer of 1988, Ron McCurry became the fourth principal of the school. Bro. Ron came into the full-time ministry
|
in November of 1974. For fourteen years, he served as youth director, associate pastor, co-pastor, teacher, and high school coordinator.
At age 34 he became principal of Heritage Christian School. He served faithfully until 1995. He became senior pastor of Heritage Church in October of 1998. Pastor Ron attended Antioch Bible College and Seminary and graduated from Whitefield Theological Seminary with a B.A. in Biblical Theology.
When Pastor Ron stepped down as principal in 1995 the choice for a new principal didn’t take long. Mr. Roy Davis became the fifth principal in our school’s history. Mr. Davis had literally grown up in our church and school ministry.

While attending Georgia Tech he volunteered to help the school by driving a morning and afternoon bus route. One year later he began teaching high school math. He continued this calling from 1974 through 1995. Even after becoming principal, Roy continued to teach high school math. He remains active in both capacities today.

God has truly blessed us during the years with talented, spiritual, and capable men of character and quality. We praise God for the input that each one has had on our ministry.

Roy Davis came to our school fresh out of Georgia Tech in 1974. He believed early on while attending college that God was calling him into the full-time Christian ministry in some capacity. He soon volunteered
|
to drive a morning and afternoon bus route for the school to earn extra money. The bus route paid $6.00 per day. The next year he was teaching the subject that he loved more than any other – high school math! He served as head of our high school math department from 1975 through 1995. Beginning with the 1995-96 school year he was appointed principal of Heritage Christian School. Since that time, he has not only served faithfully as principal, but he also continues in his role as head of the math department and teaching high school math.
